Nelson Bay Golf Club

On 23.5.19, I had the pleasure of meeting Natalie, the Sales and Marketing Manager, aka go to girl at the Nelson Bay Golf Club.

Natalie is your first point of contact and the consistently dependable person you’ll have supporting you through all your wedding planning activities. She will personally ensure that your day runs smoothly and efficiency while paying acute attention to the details.

Self admittingly a perfectionist, Natalie strives to create the perfect day for every couple and counts flexibility, care and comfort as the assets that make Nelson Bay Golf Club and her event team, the ones to cater your individualised wedding.

The Club offers a variety of packages which includes accommodation. You can pick an all-encompassing package outright or customise an entry level one to your needs and tastes -all the information you need is easily found in one of their downloadable wedding kits. https://www.nelsonbaygolf.com/weddings.

Here are some standouts that I really liked about NBGC.

  • Natalie offers on the day coordinator support which means you’ll have someone to take care of all those last-minute ideas, thoughts and plans. Importantly, she will work with your celebrant and wedding party to coordinate a seamless start to your wedding ceremony and a smooth and confident transition into after ceremony activities.
  • The wedding packages provide a well-furnished, clean canvas for you to embellish which would appeal to you creative DIY decorators.
  • I was impressed with the artsy architecture and maximised views at NBGC and learnt that the club was recently rebuilt after a fire gutted the building in 2015. The numerous, lofty windows truly make the most of the surrounding scenery and allow for a sun kissed drink, meal, conversation or lizard basking lounge.
  • The NBGC cuts a striking and modern figure on the crest of Dowling Street, just minutes’ walk from the heart of town and within quick access via car to a myriad of beaches, parks, jetties and breathtaking vistas like the ones at the lighthouse.
  • The Club is clad with some funky punched metal panelling which creates geometric shapes on the walkways and walls, adding to its contemporary feel.
  • NBGC only book one wedding function per day and the main room has its own bar and can be opened to maximise space or sectioned off to keep it cosier. There are projectors in both rooms for those rotating family albums, bride and groom roasts or messages from abroad. There is also a wrap around veranda which lets you peek through the trees to eye some of The Bay’s renown water views.
  • There is a door separate to the Club entry for your guests and wedding party, with washroom facilities and a bougainvillea encroached private space for multi-functional use.
  • The Club offers two primary choices when it comes to ceremony spaces both of which are vitally shaded and one, which is wet weatherproof.
  • The open-air, bush cathedral would be my top pick with its tree and shrub lined aisle, manicured surrounds, creeping hedged greenery and chlorophyll green grass.
  • Cars can drive on the course to the space however riding in one of the limo buggies is as thrilling as getting a hole in one, if you let your inner child enjoy the ride.
  • The club boasts a diverse landscape for wedding photographs having a lush golf course with easily accessible, ethereal looking gullies which are often inhabited with kangaroos and koalas, a skyline of treetops and a panorama that includes the beautiful Mount Tomaree, which always reminds me of the resting Te Fiti, out of the film Moana, for the way she hugs the peninsula and encompassing sea.
  • There are a multitude of Instagram worthy snaps at your fingertips around the NBGC and at the moment, their winter special which runs from May-July will have you pocketing a weighty $1200 in savings.
  • In wedding industry terms, NBGC is a young competitor who is still growing and asserting its place in the market however with such expansive facilities, friendly faces, considerate customer service, optimised packages and adjacent accommodation options, they are fast becoming a destination wedding venue and a hub for locals to get hitched.
